ERA leads discussion and answers questions about practical applications of GIS
Engineering Resource Associates, Inc. (ERA) is hosting a free session for current and prospective clients. Lillian Prince, PE, CFM, LEED AP; Darcy Berg, ASLA, LEED AP; and Doug Cogswell, LSIT will present "Practical Applications of GIS" on Wednesday, February 11 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Fairfield Inn & Suites at 645 W. North Avenue in Lombard. Ms. Prince has over 10 years of GIS, environmental and water resource management experience. Ms. Berg has over 20 years of experience including GIS and guiding projects from proposal through construction. Mr. Cogswell has over five years of experience with GIS and land surveying and mapping.
GIS (Geographic Information System) technology has revolutionized mapping and made it much more accessible for use in applications such as engineering and survey, utilities and floodplain mapping, zoning and land use, etc. GIS can be very efficient and a cost-effective tool for any planning or decision making that involves geographic data. For this session, we will begin with a brief introduction to GIS and its usefulness for visualizing data and general data management. From there, the discussion will focus on aspects of using GIS pertaining to infrastructure inventory, storm water management and floodplain management, survey, environmental science, and landscape architecture.
