ERA selected to design streambank stabilization techniques to protect and provide a vegetative management and maintenance plan to restore the valuable woodlands

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. - Lyman Woods is a valuable 138-acre natural area in Downers Grove, Illinois that is owned by a consortium of local governments and managed by the Downers Grove Park District. Locally, unusual glacial landforms and much of the original native woodland community survives in the natural area. Surrounding urbanization has impacted the site’s natural resources resulting in eroding drainageways, increased soil erosion, and habitat loss. Engineering Resource Associates (ERA) has been selected to design streambank stabilization techniques to protect the preserve and to provide a vegetative management and maintenance plan to restore the valuable woodlands. Due to the pristine nature of the site, ERA is working closely with stakeholders to overcome construction access issues in the project design and in the preparation of construction documents. The project includes an inventory, by ERA personnel, of nearly 3,000 trees and a hydrologic study of tributary areas.
